Moss Lake is named in memory of Hubert H. Moss, a local school superintendent and avid outdoorsman who originated the movement for a city lake.
A well kept secret with quiet lake water and a peaceful community offering a unique environment for homes with waterfront, wooded or hilltop views, just 12 miles northwest of Gainesville and about 60 miles north of Dallas / Fort Worth, Texas.
Nestled in rolling hills, surrounded by beautiful trees, Moss Lake is a 1,190-acre lake at the juncture of the north and south forks of Fish Creek. The lake is conveniently located just 11 miles northwest of Gainesville, in north central Texas, just west of I-35.
Completed in 1966, the dam, which is 1,460' long and 96' high, is an earthen structure coated with a thick layer of riprap rock.

By the way, Moss Lake is not mossy at all, as the name might imply. It's waters are clear and clean, some of the best in Texas. Summer days after not having rain for a few weeks, the clarity is so good you can see your toes! Come enjoy this beautiful lake, just a short drive from the DFW metroplex! |
